If you’re pregnant, you may need extra iron to meet the demands of both your body and the growing fetus. Your blood levels are monitored throughout pregnancy, and your healthcare provider will advise if you need additional iron.

  • Older Adults

Iron deficiency anemia is more common in older adults. This is partly due to reduced iron absorption with age and partly because conditions that cause blood loss, such as intestinal cancer, become more common as people age.
